The FIA World Endurance Championship is set for some exciting times in the future as Lamborghini becomes the latest manufacturer that’ll join the pinnacle of endurance racing in 2024. It’ll take on the hypercar class and has given a first teaser of its LMDh challenger. This prototype will also compete in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship (GTP class).
This ain’t Lamborghini’s first rodeo in sportscar racing, as its motorsport division Squadra Corse has a long history of competing in GT racing since 2015 in a variety of GT3 championships as well as its one-make Super Trofeo series. In this period, the raging bulls have amassed over 40 titles.
While details on the LMDh prototype are still scarce, the sole teaser image reveals a design sketch of the racecar looking quite similar to the Sian hypercar, but with a race-ready body. Another intriguing bit will be what Lamborghini will plonk under the hood of the racecar.
This latest announcement from Lamborghini makes it yet another big name set to join the top flight of endurance racing. Currently, Toyota, and Glickemhaus comprise the Hypercar class, but they will be joined by LMDh prototypes from Porsche, Cadillac, BMW, and Acura from 2023, with Alpine joining in 2024. Ferrari and Peugeot will also join the party with hypercars soon.
